Stationary-wave length

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009231

The spatial distance between successive crests or troughs of a stationary wave in the atmosphere. This characteristic length scale is determined by factors such as the Coriolis parameter, the mean flow speed, and the forcing mechanism, often topography. Stationary waves in the atmosphere can have wavelengths of thousands of kilometers.
