Wavenumber
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010164
A measure of the spatial frequency of a wave, defined as the number of waves per unit distance or 2π divided by the wavelength. It indicates how many wave cycles exist within a given length. Wavenumber is a fundamental parameter in wave mechanics, used in both oceanography and atmospheric science to characterize the spatial scale of wave phenomena.
