Zonally averaged models
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010336
Atmospheric or oceanic models that simplify the three-dimensional system by averaging all variables over longitude, reducing the problem to two dimensions (latitude and height or depth). These models are computationally less expensive and are useful for studying large-scale, zonally symmetric processes. They are often employed in climate studies to understand long-term trends.
