Acrylamido-methyl-propane sulfonate polymer
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004216
A synthetic copolymer used as a high-temperature fluid loss control agent and rheology modifier in water-based drilling fluids. This polymer, often abbreviated as AMPS, maintains its effectiveness in environments with high temperatures and high salinity, where other polymers like starches or cellulosics would degrade. Its thermal stability makes it suitable for deep, hot wells with bottomhole temperatures exceeding 300°F (150°C).
