Apparent anisotropy
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000161
The observed directional dependence of seismic wave velocity that does not necessarily reflect the true intrinsic anisotropy of the rock formation. This effect can arise from the geometry of the seismic survey, the presence of thin layers, or the averaging of properties over a larger volume. It is distinguished from intrinsic anisotropy, which is a property of the rock itself.
