Armor

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000179

The protective outer sheath of a wireline logging cable, consisting of two or more layers of high-strength steel wires wound helically around the central core of insulated conductors. This external steel wrapping provides tensile strength for supporting the weight of the tool string and cable, and it protects the internal electrical conductors from abrasion, crushing, and high pressures. The number of armor wires and the material, such as galvanized improved plow steel, are specified by the cable manufacturer.
