Aromatic content test
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000180
A laboratory procedure to determine the concentration of aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzene and toluene, in a base fluid for drilling mud. This analysis is performed because aromatic compounds are regulated for environmental and health reasons, with strict limits on their permissible levels in fluids used offshore or discharged onshore. The test is typically conducted using gas chromatography or ultraviolet fluorescence spectroscopy, with results reported as a volume or weight percentage.
