X-ray fluorescence (XRF)

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004186

A non-destructive analytical technique used to determine the elemental composition of rock samples. When X-rays strike a sample, they cause atoms to emit characteristic secondary X-rays, or fluorescence, which are then detected and analyzed. XRF provides rapid, quantitative data on major and trace elements, aiding in lithological identification and chemostratigraphy.
