Beneficiation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000318
The process of improving the physical or chemical properties of a raw material, such as barite or bentonite, to make it suitable for use in drilling fluids. This involves crushing, grinding, washing, and separating minerals to remove impurities and achieve a desired particle size distribution. For barite, beneficiation increases its specific gravity to meet API specifications for weighting agents.
