Combination string

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000758

A casing, tubing, or drill string assembled from sections of pipe with different weights, grades of steel, or connection types. The design places higher-strength, heavier-walled pipe in sections of the well where stresses like tension or collapse pressure are highest, and lower-cost pipe where they are not. This design approach reduces the overall weight and total cost of the string compared to using a single high-grade specification for its entire length.
