Degasser
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000982
A piece of solids control equipment that removes entrained gases, such as methane, carbon dioxide, or hydrogen sulfide, from the drilling fluid. The mud is directed into a vessel where a vacuum or agitation separates the gas, which is then vented safely away from the rig floor. This process prevents gas-cut mud from reducing hydrostatic pressure in the wellbore and avoids circulating flammable or toxic gases.
