ECD
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001241
The effective circulating density, which is the density of the drilling fluid when it is circulating in the wellbore, accounting for the frictional pressure losses in the annulus. This value is higher than the static fluid density due to the pressure exerted by the moving fluid column. Maintaining the ECD within a narrow window is necessary to prevent wellbore instability or formation damage.
