Electrodynamic brake

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001277

A braking system that uses electromagnetic forces to slow or stop motion, converting kinetic energy into electrical energy, often dissipated as heat. On a drilling rig, these brakes are used in the drawworks to control the lowering and hoisting of the drillstring and casing. They provide precise and smooth control, reducing wear on mechanical brakes.
