Guard electrode
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001765
An electrode on a resistivity logging tool that emits a focusing current to constrain the path of the primary measurement current. This current prevents the measurement current from spreading vertically along the borehole, forcing it to penetrate horizontally into the formation. Laterolog tools, which use this principle, provide accurate formation resistivity measurements in wells drilled with conductive, salt-based muds.
