Bucking current
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000481
An electrical current applied in a focused resistivity logging tool to force the main measurement current to flow horizontally into the formation. This current is sent from auxiliary electrodes, called bucking or guard electrodes, located above and below the main measurement electrode. By preventing the measurement current from flowing up or down the borehole, the tool achieves a deeper investigation and a more accurate reading of the formation's true resistivity.
