Hardbanding

The process of applying a wear-resistant alloy material to the exterior surface of drill pipe tool joints and other downhole components. This protective layer reduces abrasive wear on the drill string and casing, extending the life of the equipment. Hardbanding materials are typically tungsten carbide or other hard metal alloys.
