In situ fluid analysis
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001957
The measurement and characterization of reservoir fluids directly within the wellbore, without bringing samples to the surface. Specialized downhole tools extract small fluid volumes and analyze their composition, density, and other properties. This method minimizes sample contamination and alteration, providing more representative fluid data for reservoir modeling.
The downhole measurement of reservoir fluid properties using optical and chemical sensors deployed on a wireline formation testing tool. These tools extract a small sample of formation fluid and measure properties such as fluid type, gas-oil ratio, composition, and contamination levels in real time. The analysis distinguishes between oil, water, and gas phases based on their distinct optical absorption spectra.
