Kilopascal
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004369
A metric unit of pressure equal to 1,000 pascals, used to quantify forces in drilling and reservoir engineering. The pascal, the base unit in the International System of Units (SI), is defined as one newton of force applied over an area of one square meter. Because the pascal is a very small unit, the kilopascal (kPa) and megapascal (MPa) are more practical for expressing downhole pressures, mud weights, and formation fracture gradients.
