Meniscus
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002323
The curved surface of a liquid in a container, formed by the interplay of surface tension and the adhesion or cohesion forces between the liquid and the container walls. In drilling fluid laboratories, accurate readings of fluid volumes in graduated cylinders or burettes require observing the bottom of the meniscus for aqueous solutions or the top for opaque fluids. This curvature can be concave or convex depending on the liquid and surface.
