Offset
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004399
The apparent displacement of a rock layer or other marker across a fault, measured between where the two cut-off ends now lie. It is reported in a stated direction, as vertical offset (throw) or horizontal offset (heave), and differs from slip, which is measured along the fault plane. Offsets are mapped from seismic data and well logs to judge reservoir compartmentalisation and well placement.
