Opening bomb
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002631
A weighted dart or plug dropped from surface to open a stage collar, also called a DV tool, in multistage cementing. After the first stage is displaced, the bomb falls by gravity to the opening seat in the collar, and pressure applied above it shifts the inner sleeve to uncover the ports through which the second stage of cement is pumped. The ports are later closed with a closing plug.
