To embed a seismic geophone or sensor firmly into the ground to achieve good coupling with the Earth's surface. Proper planting minimizes the introduction of ground roll and other surface noise into the recorded seismic data. The quality of the plant directly affects the fidelity of the seismic signal received by the geophone.
