Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002843
A joint of tubing or pipe whose outside surface is ground and polished to serve as a sealing surface. It passes through a stuffing box, packing gland or set of seals, or stabs into the seal bore of a packer or receptacle, so the string can move axially without leaking. It differs from a polished bore receptacle, where the polished surface is on the inside of the receiving component.
