Q
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004428
A dimensionless measure of the energy dissipation of a seismic wave as it travels through a medium, also known as the quality factor. It is defined as 2π times the ratio of the peak energy stored in a cycle to the energy dissipated in that cycle. A low Q value indicates high attenuation, characteristic of unconsolidated sediments or gas-saturated zones, while a high Q value signifies low attenuation, as found in well-cemented rocks.
