Quaternary amine

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003021

A type of organic chemical compound characterized by a nitrogen atom bonded to four organic substituents, resulting in a positive charge. In drilling fluids, these compounds are primarily used as shale inhibitors to prevent the swelling and dispersion of reactive clay formations. They also function as biocides to control bacterial growth in the mud system.
