Reserve-mud pit

A large, excavated pit or tank used to store excess or prepared drilling fluid that is not currently in active circulation. It serves as a reservoir for makeup fluid, for holding fluid during well control operations, or for storing fluid for future use. The pit is typically lined to prevent seepage into the ground.
