PIT
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002809
An abbreviation for pressure integrity test, a test of the open formation just below a new casing shoe in which fluid is pumped in and pressure is raised until the rock leaks off or a planned limit is reached. The result gives the formation strength or fracture pressure that caps mud weight and sets kick tolerance for the next hole section. A test stopped at a planned pressure below leakoff is usually called a formation integrity test.
