Shrimp test

A bioassay that rates the toxicity of a drilling fluid by exposing mysid shrimp (Americamysis bahia, formerly Mysidopsis bahia) to the mud's suspended particulate phase for 96 hours and recording mortality. The result is reported as the 96-hour LC50 in parts per million of suspended particulate phase, and the US EPA offshore discharge permit requires a minimum of 30,000 ppm.
