Pillowing

Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000278

A surface defect observed on the top horizontal surfaces of 3D printed parts, characterized by unevenness, bumps, or depressions that resemble a pillow. This occurs when the top layers do not fully bridge the infill structure below, often due to insufficient cooling, inadequate infill density, or incorrect extrusion settings. Adjusting infill overlap or top layer thickness can mitigate pillowing.
