Shot peening
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000348
A cold working process used to improve the fatigue life and stress corrosion cracking resistance of metal parts, including those produced by additive manufacturing. It involves bombarding the surface of a component with small, spherical media, creating compressive residual stresses. This surface treatment can mitigate microscopic defects and surface irregularities inherent in some 3D printing processes.
