2,3-bis(sulfanyl)propan-1-ol

A chemical compound also known as dimercaprol or British Anti-Lewisite (BAL), historically used as an antidote for poisoning by arsenic, mercury, and other heavy metals. It acts by chelating the metal ions, forming stable complexes that can be excreted from the body. Its use is now largely superseded by less toxic chelating agents.
