2-amino-3-(3-hydroxy-5-methyl-1,2-oxazol-4-yl)propanoic acid receptor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000010
A specific type of ionotropic glutamate receptor that mediates fast synaptic transmission in the central nervous system. Upon binding with the neurotransmitter glutamate, the receptor channel opens, allowing the influx of sodium ions and, in some configurations, calcium ions, leading to excitatory postsynaptic potentials. These receptors are tetrameric protein complexes composed of different subunits (GluA1 to GluA4), the combination of which determines their specific ion permeability and kinetic properties.
