N-methyl-D-aspartate

A synthetic amino acid that acts as a specific agonist for the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor, a type of ionotropic glutamate receptor. It is widely used in neuroscience research to study the function of these receptors in synaptic plasticity and excitotoxicity. This compound is not naturally occurring in the body.
