Glutamate-induced excitotoxicity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004927
Neuronal damage or death caused by excessive or prolonged activation of glutamate receptors, particularly N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. This overstimulation leads to an influx of calcium ions into neurons, triggering a cascade of destructive biochemical events. It is implicated in acute brain injuries like stroke and in neurodegenerative diseases.
