Affine chain behaviour
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000315
A model describing the deformation of a polymer network where the displacement of network junctions is directly proportional to the macroscopic strain applied to the material. This assumes that the vectors connecting the ends of each polymer chain transform in the same way as the bulk material's dimensions. The affine model provides a simple basis for calculating the elastic properties of rubber-like materials, although it tends to overestimate the modulus compared to experimental results.
