Compartmentalisation behaviour
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002300
The isolation of growing radicals in separate latex particles of an emulsion or miniemulsion polymerization, so that two radicals rarely meet in the same particle. Termination is therefore suppressed, which raises both the polymerization rate and the molar mass compared with bulk polymerization at the same initiation rate. In the limiting case each particle holds either zero or one radical, which is called zero-one behaviour.
