Zero-one behaviour

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012803

A limiting regime in emulsion polymerization in which a particle holds either no growing radical or one, because a radical entering a particle that already contains one terminates it before any appreciable propagation. The mean radical count per particle therefore cannot exceed 0.5. It is typical of small particles, where termination is very fast, and it matches the Smith-Ewart case 2 limit when exit is negligible.
