Ameloblast
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000479
A specialized epithelial cell responsible for the formation of enamel, the hard outer layer of teeth. These cells differentiate from the inner enamel epithelium during tooth development and secrete the proteins that mineralize into enamel. Ameloblasts are active only during tooth formation and are lost once the enamel is fully formed.
