Odontoblast
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008196
A cell of neural crest origin located at the periphery of the dental pulp, responsible for the formation of dentin, the calcified tissue that forms the bulk of a tooth. These cells secrete predentin, which subsequently mineralizes into dentin. Odontoblasts are characterized by their columnar shape and long cytoplasmic processes that extend into the dentinal tubules.
