White pulp

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012692

The regions of lymphatic tissue that constitute part of the spleen's internal structure. Composed primarily of lymphocytes organized around central arterioles, it functions as a secondary lymphoid organ for initiating immune responses to blood-borne antigens. The white pulp is histologically and functionally distinct from the spleen's red pulp, which is responsible for filtering and removing old or damaged red blood cells.
