Red pulp

A major component of the spleen, primarily involved in filtering blood, removing old or damaged red blood cells, and storing platelets. It consists of splenic cords (cords of Billroth) and splenic sinuses, which are rich in macrophages and red blood cells. This tissue also serves as a reservoir for monocytes.
