Aortopulmonary septum
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000724
A spiral-shaped wall of tissue that develops in the embryonic heart to partition the truncus arteriosus and conus cordis into the ascending aorta and the pulmonary trunk. This septation is a complex process involving the migration and fusion of neural crest cells. Failure of this septum to form correctly leads to congenital heart defects like persistent truncus arteriosus.
