Aryl hydrocarbon receptor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000823
A ligand-activated transcription factor that mediates the toxic and biological effects of certain environmental contaminants, such as dioxins and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Upon binding its ligand, the receptor translocates to the nucleus and forms a complex with the aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator (ARNT). This complex then binds to specific DNA sequences, known as dioxin response elements, to regulate gene expression.
