Assimilation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000842
The process by which chemical substances are taken up by a living organism from its environment and incorporated into its own tissues and cells. This follows the initial absorption of the substance across a biological barrier, such as the gut or skin. The assimilation efficiency is the percentage of a substance ingested by an organism that is absorbed and not egested as waste.
