Avascularity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001018
The state of lacking blood vessels, meaning there is no direct blood supply to the tissue or organ. Tissues such as cartilage, the cornea, and the epidermis are avascular, relying on diffusion from surrounding vascularized tissues for nutrient and waste exchange. This characteristic influences their regenerative capacity and susceptibility to injury.
