Belief theory
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001177
A framework for reasoning with uncertainty that generalizes probability theory by assigning belief mass to sets of possibilities rather than single events. Also known as Dempster-Shafer theory or the theory of evidence, it separates belief, disbelief, and uncertainty, allowing it to represent ignorance explicitly. The theory combines evidence from different sources using Dempster's rule of combination.
