Bioerosion

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001268

The gradual loss of mass from a material due to biological processes, often involving enzymatic hydrolysis or cellular activity. This phenomenon is particularly relevant for materials implanted in living organisms, where it can lead to the controlled release of substances or the eventual disappearance of the implant. The rate of bioerosion is influenced by the material's composition and the biological environment.
