Buffer-addition technique
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001529
A method in spectrochemical analysis where a substance, the spectrochemical buffer, is added in high concentration to both calibration samples and test samples. The buffer's presence stabilizes the excitation conditions in the plasma or arc, such as temperature and electron density, by making the sample matrix's properties dominant. This action minimizes matrix effects, where variations in sample composition would otherwise alter the analytical signal and lead to inaccurate results for the analyte concentration.
