Spectrochemical buffer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011155

A substance added to a sample and reference materials in spectrochemical analysis to reduce or eliminate interferences from the sample matrix. It works by controlling conditions such as volatilization, excitation, or ionization in the radiation source, making the analytical signal less dependent on the sample's overall composition. For example, alkali metal salts are added in atomic emission spectroscopy to suppress ionization of the analyte.
