Releaser
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010176
A substance added in flame atomic spectroscopy that reduces solute-volatilization interference by combining preferentially with the interfering species, so that the analyte is not tied up in a thermally stable compound. Lanthanum salts are a standard example in atomic absorption, where lanthanum binds phosphate and so releases calcium from the phosphate that would otherwise suppress its signal. A releaser differs from an ionization buffer, which suppresses ionization of the analyte.
